Halloween is the perfect time for little hands to get creative! These three simple, kid-friendly crafts use colourful paints, soft felt and foam sheets, fuzzy chenille stems (pipe cleaners), buttons, googly eyes, card toppers, ribbons and washi tapes from our Halloween collection. They’re low-mess, big on fun, and perfect for preschoolers upwards (with a little adult help for cutting and gluing).

1. Fuzzy Pipe Cleaner Spiders

These cute (or creepy!) spiders are super quick and great for practising fine motor skills.

You will need:

• Black and orange chenille stems (pipe cleaners)
• Self-adhesive googly eyes or Halloween buttons
• Optional: a little white glue or sticky dots

Step-by-step:

1. Take 4 black chenille stems. Twist them together tightly in the middle to form the spider’s body.
2. Bend the ends outward to create 8 legs. Curve each leg slightly so the spider can stand or crawl.
3. For a fun twist, wrap a short piece of orange chenille stem around the body for stripes or a cute “pumpkin spider” look.
4. Stick on two (or more!) googly eyes or buttons.
5. Optional: bend two short pieces into antennae or fangs.

Hang them from ribbon, stick them on windows, or let them “crawl” across the table!

2. Soft Felt & Foam Pumpkin Friends

Soft, colourful pumpkins that make lovely decorations or fridge magnets (just add a magnet on the back).

You will need:

• Orange and yellow felt sheets or foam sheets
• Black card, foam or felt for faces
• Halloween buttons or glitter pumpkin card toppers
• Acrylic paint (pumpkin, deep orange or black) if you want to add details
• Scissors, glue or sticky dots

Step-by-step:

1. Draw or freehand a simple pumpkin shape on orange felt or foam and cut it out (adult help for younger children). Make a few different sizes.
2. Cut a small green or yellow stem and leaf from felt/foam and glue them on top.
3. Cut simple triangle eyes, nose and a smiling or jack-o’-lantern mouth from black card/foam, or use ready-made Halloween card toppers and buttons.
4. Glue the face pieces on. Add extra buttons for cheeks or decoration.
5. Optional: paint a few details or add washi tape stripes.

These look adorable lined up on a windowsill or strung together as a garland with ribbon.

3. Spooky Halloween Cards & Decorations

Perfect for sending to family or hanging as bunting. Use black card, glitter toppers and fun ribbons.

You will need:

• Black or orange card/cardstock
• Halloween glitter card toppers (ghosts, pumpkins, bats, skeletons)
• Washi tape (Halloween designs)
• Grosgrain or wired Halloween ribbons
• Acrylic paints (orange, black, neon orange)
• Googly eyes, buttons
• Scissors, glue

Step-by-step:

1. Fold a piece of black or orange card in half to make a simple card, or cut rectangles for bunting flags.
2. Paint simple shapes if you like (a big orange pumpkin or black cat silhouette) and leave to dry.
3. Stick on glitter card toppers, googly eyes and buttons to create characters – a ghost, bat, or friendly monster.
4. Add strips of Halloween washi tape for borders or patterns.
5. Finish with a length of ribbon or ric-rac trim along the edge or as a hanging loop.

Write a “Happy Halloween” or “Trick or Treat” message inside, or punch a hole and string several together for room decorations.

Tips for Happy Crafting

• Cover the table with newspaper or a wipe-clean mat – acrylic paints wash up easily while wet.
• Let younger children peel and stick the self-adhesive googly eyes and toppers.
• Mix and match: use leftover chenille stems as spider legs on a felt pumpkin, or turn a painted card into a monster bookmark.
• Adult supervision for scissors and any hot glue if used.
